About Exeter-HADGL Conference

The Exeter International Conference on Human-Centred AI, Digital Education, and Global Learning (Exeter-HADGL Conference) is an annual, fully online international conference hosted by the University of Exeter. We bring together educators, researchers, students, policymakers, and industry partners to advance human-centered and inclusive approaches to AI-enabled education, grounded in evidence, shaped by real teaching practice, and designed for global impact.

Our focus

AI is rapidly changing how learning is designed, delivered, assessed, and experienced. Exeter-HADGL Conference provides a global forum to explore what effective and responsible innovation looks like in practice: from generative AI and hybrid intelligence, to online and blended programme design, to immersive and game-based learning, and to learning analytics and student success. We foreground questions of equity, accessibility, and ethics, and we welcome work that is sensitive to context, from high-resource to low-resource environments.

What makes Exeter-HADGL distinctive

  • Human-centred by design: we prioritise approaches that respect learner agency, support educators, and align with societal values.
  • Digital education at the core: we focus on online and digital learning that is scalable, high quality, and pedagogically sound.
  • Global learning, not one-size-fits-all: we emphasise inclusive, culturally aware, and internationally relevant perspectives on AI in education.
  • Evidence to impact: we encourage rigorous evaluation, transparent reporting, and actionable insights for practice and policy.

Community and participation

We welcome contributions across research, practice, and policy, including empirical studies, design and evaluation reports, methodological advances, case studies, position papers, and demonstrations. Each year, the conference features keynote talks, peer-reviewed sessions, interactive panels, practitioner workshops, and early-career/doctoral mentoring opportunities.

Hosted by the University of Exeter

As a research-intensive university with a strong commitment to education innovation and global engagement, the University of Exeter hosts Exeter-HADGL Conference as a platform for collaboration and thought leadership in human-centred AI and digital education.
